Well, screw my tail schedule, I just seem to be making whatever I want, lul...

So far, I made a failed Sabertooth tail (I have to take it apart, the bottom fur was too wide at the tip and made it flat so it looked like a beaver tail...).

Yesterday, a coworker asked me to make an 8 inch cat toy o_O So I did, out of some black seal faux fur. I put a bell in it. He paid me for it, too, and told me his kitten loved it.
So thats my first tail sale of this "I R MAKING TAILS!" spree o_o

Technically, my first evar were handpaws and a tail for Burning =x

Today, I made a wolf tail from the tanish + black guard hair fur (it's in the inventory as "wolf fur" near the bottom). It came out ok, I just need to fix the elastc tail loops. Mistake on my part - I thought really thick 2 inch elastic loop was wide enough that it wouldn't twist... nooooo... lol. It twisted at the base of the elastic, therefore, two smaller loops required to keep it from swiveling 180 degrees when you walk.

I keep seeing other tails (like fox tails, etc... and some not all that pretty) for like, $25-$30...
And one - two color cat tails for $20 o_O .....the simple cat tail for $20 sounds unrealistic to me... but if thats a true pricing, then... >.>; *likes money...*

I wish someone could tell me the tail type averages - but I'm not sure which comm to post in without looking like a total dumbass, to ask -_-; Fursuit Lounge? Fursuit Auction?


I'm probably going to make a few then post here first before anywhere else, so friends can have first dibs. That and things like ebay/furbid do that charge thinger.
It'd be kinda pointless and LJ-cut unsatisfying when you click the cut and see only one lil object for sale :x But maybe thats just me being self critical o_O

I have a few non-fursuit items to sell too... I have no place for them or I have no use for them, and were acquired one way or another x.x


On the other side, I'm making a personal tail that well... I'll call it practice,. Yeah. Practice. And I shall keep this "practice" tail for referencing later. Yeah. And wear it. For reference. Yeah.

it's roughly liek a smash between a tiger tail and a lemur tail o_O It wasn't intended to be either, but just a kind of "I wonder what happens if..."
The black stripes are really spaced out and were cut really thin.... being that they were cut from two luckily large swatches *hugs Plushfur.com for their like, 6"x6" or whatever it is, swatches*. To bulk it up to be fluffier, I'm gunna add a white under belly to it. Cause really, no, it's not a specific species of anything. I just like it >=o ....and I randomly created a character to it on the train the evening I started it >_>; I even ave a whole outfit for it, too... just my Renn ears, clothing, goggles and that tail. Give it some character personality, history, background and storyline and wahlah! All in a day's hour train ride.

Anyway.

My estimate is that it'll be at least 4 feet long.... I'm about 5'0"
lul.

-Black faux fur. Hopefully the CRcrafts/MM black fox fur for fursuit Tien AND tails. maybe 2 yards to start off with... but that will probably cost me 3-4 $20+ tails D: (see below, "basically, I plan on this:" for what I mean).

-Black/Purple/Blue three-colored fur from Distinctive... when it's back in stock again D: thats another tail...

basically, I plan on this:
One yard of fur = roughly $19-25 depending on what type and where I get it from (not including shipping). So one tail, depending on the type, could be roughly that/ 1 yard. And I can get 2-4 tails out of one yard. So technically, I would be donating a tail's sale to buy more fur/replenish... maybe one tail per every "batch" (3 or so tails) would go back into materials.

-Glass eyes, jawset, nose from Beetlecat and paw pads (later)... that alone is probably another $80 =\
Edit: probably more like $65 - $9 eyes $9 jawset (unpainted) + shipping, no idea - then $25 nose + who know shipping from Canada D:

-RPG Maker license so I can continue on the Xieu/Tien game.

Thats about $60. That will probably be a set back for a short time, but it's a one time deal. I don't think I can wait that long since I want to get some "material" out for either Acen or Jacon when we try to get a table in the artists gal. The game will be a "draw in" to the written story and junk. A sample, basically.
I have experience with RPG Maker awhile ago. An hour of gameplay was like... a month and a half - 2 months worth of lots of work. I figure just enough for intro into the storyline, but not giving TOO much away...
maybe up to the dramatic part of a cliff hanger where Tien goes nutter butters and runs off (considering he's so shy and in control...).

Well, I got a quote back from ClockWork Creatures... they have an queue opening late August and again in Jan. They take 30% and payment in increments, but considering I don't have anything yet (*Shakes fist at her new furniture*), I'll be going after the January queue opening. Hopefully by then I'll have enough.

My main aim is the head - $750, but I'm also aiming to go way above that for more parts (hand paws, digi feet paws, tail). and my aim is high.... very high...

lul, I say "I wanna do..." a lot but usually tend not to. Especially this one: "I'm gunna make tails and sell them"

Well, I am.

Currently in process:

1.) seal fur ('seal' meaning short fur...not... made from the animal) calico cat tail - Cream brown and black: In process. Cut out all colors, blotches and base.

2.) Seal fur and long pile Sabertooth tail (#1) with two stripes - Cream and brown: In process. Cut out and being prepared for the stripes to be hand sewn. In fact, it's in my lap right now, waiting for me to shut my fingers trap :D

3.) Seal fur and long pile Sabertooth tail (#2) with long blotch down the middle - Cream and brown: In process. Cut out.


For the future:

1.) Shaggy calico cat tail - white, dark tan, little bit of black and camel (because all I have are swatches, for the black and camel for shag fur x.x).

2.) Shaggy calico cat tail - PARTYMIX! - white base, yellow and random colors (ala swatches, lul). Blue, Sage, camel, red, orange shag

3.) Long pile Calico Cat tail - White long pile base, blotches of brown, black

4.) Short pile (but not quite seal-short) Calico cat tail - Wild side - grey-speckled, chinchilla, Tan Coyote and maybe leopard and purple/white feathered.

5.) Wolf tail - brown/black/tan long pile

Anytime:

solid color cat tails: Long, shag or Short pile white, long or seal pile brown, seal pile black, and yellow shag. Can also do shorter tails and fox tails in purple/white/black medium pile fur and white shag (long or regular shag)

Thoughts: The sabertooth tiger tail idea came when the fur I was using had some bad parts (it was bargained from a mom and pop fabric store around the corner from here - it was dirty in some places and wouldn't wash... it was too bad since it was soft and a nice cream color... but anyway) so I cut under that. Being that it was too short for the average person (though an ok length for someone short like me) I cut it in half to make two sabertooth tiger tails.

My first time, so if they come out looking like crap, then.... well... I guess I'll sell them for $2-$5 and chalk it to a learning experience =\ Or reuse the fabric for calico blotches.

Which would have been super awesome for fursuit Tien since it's more wild like/beastly/grizzly-bear like/rugged then the shag furs which are more soft and fluffy. Tien's kind were originally very feral and very wild before the Divine Ones (Xieu's kind) made a pact with them and junk... so... he still has those traits in his beast form D:

I got it at Walmart about two years ago in a moment of "Oooooo :o"

So, with the help of the fursuit comm, we believe it may be closest to the "Fox" fur from CR crafts or MM (Monteray Mills) fox fur... though MM doesn't give sample and has a base mandatory yardage of 5 yards+ D:

So, I'm gunna get the sample card from CR Crafts. I'd have just ordered it, but I noticed they tacked on $5 shipping. -____- until I get money, $7 will wait. (the only sample card they have with the fox ones on it comes on two pages of completely useless crap other than the 3 fox colors)

I think I have my list of what I want to make:

-Tien the Shadow Beast (which who's head is already half done, thanks to Luke-Fox donating his head...*will have to make poor Luke-fox a new one another time*)

-Phoenix (whom I'll just label Efriete because of all of Efri's phoenix references).
I'm throwing this in to take a break from all the cats and dogs I've made thus far (well, ok, only one at - Soul Lion - but I mean a bird is 100 times differently made)

-Tiger Blackstar (yes, Soul Eater... also, see my icon avatar thinger for the original/human reference of Blackstar)

-Gryphon (with this black, white and purple feathered fur I got about two years ago with a gryphon thought out for it)

-Xieu in his Divine Dragon form (pretty much a Lung dragon... though I'm thinking kinda a mix between the three Asian dragons - Chinese, Japanese and Korean... though probably most like a Korean dragon)

I'm going to start making Calico tails - maybe some as chain tails.

Basically, I have a base color and then I cut patches and sew in all my current 568658430463829 pieces of different colored scraps (of preferably same length).

NOt sure how much I can sell them for, yet, though. Maybe over $30-$40 for all the colors and having to handsew the color blotches... and maybe $5 more for the chain tail types...

For this I hope some will contribute what you think, for those with experience - how much do you think a calico cat tail would sell for?

I'm hoping to try to raise money for Hito's new wolf head from Qarrezel in the future, and for just in general. And seriously, I have blotches of fur colors all over the place D: I can't really bring myself to throw it away when it's roughly fist sized... (and my hands are relatively smaller than the the average adult.... since I'm so small -.-)

ALSO.

I made tried my idea of making ears move... they semi work, but I won't know for sure until I try it for real on Tien...

Also, the ear isn't any particular shape, just a really fast haphazard 2 second general ear shape cut out and then slitted a bit on the bottom to create to slight fold shape at the bottom.

It's inappropriate, in my opinion, at an event where there are multiple races, cultures and beliefs congrgating into one spot. Sure, no ones pushing anyone to go to ...whatever the hell he's preaching. but you don't see anyone else holding services for other religions, there. Which definately looks more like the original Efriete than the B&G Afra does

So the top head - an untouched (as in, I didn't add to the faceup or anything) B&G Afra on it's own B&G body - will be the literal phoenix-with-a-human-form version of Efriete, and the second - a Migidoll Miho head that will reside on said B&G body - that I just painted yesterday - will be the original human Leoscetarius version.

As you can see, I used the same black line shape as the Afra - a.) to connect the two versions/heads familiarly as the same person; b.)He's supposed to be wildly desert-rose type exotic, and honestly I like that look around the eyes.

It's a Migidoll Ryu head that I also painted yesterday, pretty much at the same time as Efri, just switching back and forth between waiting for coats of MSC to dry.
And yes, that is my new table in the background.

This is my first time using watercolor pencils as a faceup medium, though obviously I mixed acrylic and the pencils on Efri. The pencils..........soooooooooooooooo much easier to use.

I always lightly blush my faceups, but my style in almost everything I can help is rather soft... so they don't come up well in photos -.- I used a brownish blushing on Efri's face to give the illusion of a darker skin tone, and Seth a more sienna color.

HOrrible drawing. I gave up at the feet, obviously (as they look like how I drew Kaylo and Hyen...not realistic), and didn't even bother with the hands.

AND I forgot the feathers along his tail (like the ones on his neck) :( But then again, I haven't really 100% chosen what his tail should look like. Fluffy wolf, Asian dragony (since Xieu, his master, is an Asian Lung dragon), or other.

I found the prob is that my tablet + the Vista on my desktop doesn't have the right drivers, therefore the tablet reacts differently (hard lines, no gradiating via pressure, cursor movement, etc).

I need to try again on my laptop with the right tablet drivers


Add: I think I"ll make him, get/make a blue/white/gold Hanfu (or just blue or subdoed colored one) and cosplay him in advertisement for Xieu/Tien stuff at Otakon or Acen, since UmaOkami Studios will be getting artist gallery tables.

Now I just need to finish the story.

It's a light yaoi, sorry to those who don't like it =p Too bad. Probably furthest I'd go is cuddling/non-explicit kiss. All my stuff, yaoi or straight, will be non-explicit - thats just my preference on what I'd show the world =p

No comments from the peanut gallery, on that =p you know who you are.

SMall note, since this is taken from in the middle of nowhere - both Xieu and Tien have their real forms (Dragon and Shadow Beast) and then human forms, which is used MUCH more often, just for economical reasons (fitting in spaces easier, energy, etc). So, they're generally human looking...
and kinda immortal o_O So... 100 years is nothing. lol A few hundred may be a small dent.

k, so, if I do make Shadow Beast Tien, it'll cost me a bit to get the effect I really want.

Horns:
-Paper mache with styrofoam middles (ionno, $10?)
-Paint ($4? I dunno!)

Head:
-Glass eyes (yellow) ($20ish? I think it was $12 or 16 for Nebri's)
-Nose from Beetlecat ($25)
-Taxidermy tongue (same place as the eyes) ($I forgot)
-I decided to sculpy the mouth rather than a taxi-set, due to the challenges mentioned about getting the teeth to fit to close the mouth (removing/cutting/etc the teeth which often look out of place at the end) ($I dunno, $10 for two or three bricks?)
-More styrofoam and paper mache + white paint for the saber fangs ($10??)

You can vote, even if you are or are not into fursuits, I really don't care what fandom your in/not in... I just like gathering opinions/votes (same thing), ideas and suggestions, from anyone, and stew on them to think of possibilities, before I chose... I don't like committing something without seeing all angles...

Ok, this foam WiP has been floating around for almost 1-2 years now (I started it way before Nebri/the Anubis mask. It was going to be Luke fon Fabre (see my icon), from ToTA/Tales of the Abyss, as a yellow fox, but I'm slowly falling out of the fandom as for now. Not that I'm no longer a fan, just not as hyped. I go up and down, the head was about the 3rd time I went back into it and obsessed.
If I don't, I'll probably make another at a later time - I have all the fur and I've cosplayed him, so I have his jacket and such, also. Not much holding me back.

But I'm looking at this head and wondering if I should commit to making it Luke Fox when my head isn't into it right now, or should I go for what I am into, currently?

I was thinking about making the ears move using one of Matrice's tutorials. it's not a mesh head for it to be rigid on for that, but I can always glue some mesh alongside the muzzle and up to the sides of the face and run the attached strings through the mesh holes (and mesh ears). So when the string is pulled from the hands, it pulls the ears backwards. The mesh as ears should make it pop back up. I just need to use a slippery (so it doesn't catch on the plastic mesh and retard the motion or spring back) but strong cord. Maybe a leather cord.



I'm kinda leaning towards creating Tien, the Shadow Beast, but it will be much more involved, then. I'll need another set of glass eyes (like Nebri's), figure out how to make lightweight ram's horns and light weight sabortooth teeth... and maybe a taxidermy fake jawset (ie, it looks real, but it's about as real as plastic and rubber).

I'm not too swift with paper miche and honestly don't want to get into the whole latex/resin/etc thing... I have a hard time understanding those kinds of things in the first place.

Ignore the stupidity, as I didn't know what to do, at the time, while recording so I could get an idea of how well the jaw working, for me. (hard too see in a mirror... with like... the muzzle in the way so you can't see =p)

My 'Saveup for' plans:

-A bunch of wigs, eyes and clothing + new Obitsu Haruka head for Rose and 55cm chest piece for Horus (Figure $100-$200)

-55cm Obitsu male body for Raven ($200) (this may interchange with the one below)

-White wolf head (as Leosce Akihito the werewolf; not the BJD Akihito...BJD Hito was supposed to be Leosce Hito, but, it kinda... seemed to click into it's own character after I got it o_O something about the violent headbutting and slingshotted face slap and junk didn't quite say "scholar" to me) .....I have no idea how much, yet, but probably about...... ($700+... wouldn't be surprised for 900+, though)

And maybe matching hand paws and tail, since Hito's current handpaws are kinda.... meh. I like the latex 'real' paw pad look. and I -hate- making handpaws, I find o_O. and feet paws (even moreso!). But his feets are ok, for now. The tail is a shrug cause I have the 3inch pile, now, and I can just make one. I just figured it might match the head better if worn as a partial. So really all I need is the head. If I did fullsuit, I have the current body, just needs updating.

-Go Renn faire-ing (and maybe find a good outfit for it, if I don't make one up)

-Another Bookshelf >.< ($300+? for another huge one from Ikea)

-Another cabinet like my monster closet, but with clothes drawers and a few shelves (for my figures) and random junk... since my dresser was obliterated and has taken my clothing hostage since the move (refuses to open cause the bottoms dropped out on all three drawers). - (about $500ish again like the last one)


I'm fairly sure there will be random stuff in between all that, like the $60 license for the RPG Maker...

and etc

Those are just my bigger plans (that is, if they don't lay people off any time soon. All this will probably take me a year or so...)
